Wind power proposal could mean conflict for EUB member, a KCBD/Sandstorm Scholar Investigation

A wind turbine farm in Hale County that could bring at more than 100 high-paying jobs, that’s the announcement Tri-Global Energy made in March of last year.

Now, KCBD has learned that Tri-Global investors are trying to strike a deal with Lubbock Power and Light. Our investigation has found that Tri-Glocal investors have been writing LP&L Electric Utility Board Members, lobbying them to consider a wind power agreement with Tri-Global.

But one of those EUB members could have a conflict.

KCBD has obtained a copy of the letter written by board member Suzanne Blake. In the letter, Blake informs the EUB that her husband, Brad Blake, is a Tri-Global employee. He is also a stockholder and investor in virtually every wind farm Tri-Global has developed over the past four years.

Blake tells the EUB in the letter, “I will not be involved in any decision making with regard to Tri-Global Energy as it would be inappropriate.”

Blake did not disclose this potential conflict on her application to the boards and commissions with the city.

Suzanne Blake did not return multiple calls for comment.
