Council to object to Girthgate wind farm

The Berwickshire News | 26 March 2014 | www.berwickshirenews.co.uk

There is no support from Scottish Borders Council planners for a wind farm at Girthgate Farm, on the Southern Upland Way.

A decision on the wind farm, with 24 turbines at 132m high, will be made by the Scottish Government but when the council’s planning committee meets next Monday they are being recommended to object to it on the grounds of impact on the landscape and the visual impact it would have on nearby towns and public recreation areas.

Scottish Natural Heritage also object, their position being that it would affect the River Tweed Special Area of Conservation and that the current environmental statement is “inaccurate and inadequate”.

Disappointed in the council’s planning officers recommendation, developers Community Windpower are asking that the council delays making a decision for further meetings and discussions.
