Wind farm opponents to stage public meeting

Western Morning news | 24 March 2014 | www.westernmorningnews.co.uk

Campaigners opposed to huge wind farm development in North Cornwall are holding a public meeting later this week to rally support.

Renewable energy developer Good Energy has submitted plans for 11 turbines, measuring 125-metres, on farmland between Week St Mary, Jacobstow, Warbstow, North Petherwin and Whitstone, around nine miles south of Bude.

The £30 million scheme – dubbed The Big Field Wind Farm – could eventually form part of the largest renewable energy site in Cornwall if plans for a 75-acre solar farm also go ahead.

Villagers have already raised a range of concerns including the impact on house prices, noise and visual impact.

They are holding a public meeting at Week St Mary Parish Hall on Thursday from 7.30pm.

Good Energy has announced a range of community benefits following consultation including a local community fund worth £63,250 a year and local dual fuel and electricity tariffs to all households within 5km of the development.
