Court sends strong signal on Cape Wind’s threats

March 25, 2014 | www.capecodonline.com

The recent U.S. District Court ruling on Cape Wind is a victory for those who care about the environment, especially the migratory birds and endangered right whales in our area.

For years local residents have been sounding the alarm about the threats Cape Wind – a massive, industrial 130-wind turbine project – would pose to the unique Cape Cod and Islands habitat.

The court found that two federal agencies took shortcuts in their review of Cape Wind and didn’t do what they were supposed to do to protect endangered birds and whales. The Cape Wind developers continue to push hard for this outdated, expensive project because it’s all about the money. But the public should get a lot more from the federal agencies we support with our tax dollars who are supposed to protect our environment.

The politicians should pull the plug on Cape Wind and protect Nantucket Sound before it’s too late. There are better things to do with the money.
