Dear AMA Federal Office Bearers

Credit:  Lilli-Ann Green, March 23, 2014 ~~

Following my review of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Position Statement on Wind Farms and Health 2014, I feel it is important to send this letter to you. I wish to express my grave concern that the Position Statement as it is issued is not consistent with the Code of Ethics of the Australian Medical Association which your website identifies as representing the core of fundamental principals to guide doctors in their professional conduct, concerning issues such as respect for patients, standards for care, etc.

There are no studies showing there are no adverse health effects on a local population after installation of a wind development, and there are no longitudinal studies which show there are still no adverse health effects after 25 years.

In other words, product safety has NOT been established.

In fact, the literature shows there are serious adverse health impacts to people living and working too close to wind turbines.

Furthermore, interviews conducted around the world show that clusters of people living in the proximity of wind turbines report the same health problems. They use the same words and gestures to describe their symptoms.

Carl Phillips, PhD, is a Harvard trained epidemiologist. His article, Properly Interpreting the Epidemiologic Evidence about the Health Effects of Industrial Wind Turbines on Nearby Residents, was published in the Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society in 2011. He stated the following: “There is overwhelming evidence that wind turbines cause serious health problems in nearby residents, usually stress-disorder type diseases, at a nontrivial rate. The bulk of the evidence takes the form of thousands of adverse event reports…The attempts to deny the evidence cannot be seen as honest scientific disagreement, and represent either gross incompetence or intentional bias.”

I am in agreement with the open letter from the Waubra Foundation found online at the following link: http://waubrafoundation.org.au/resources/open-letter-ama-their-position-statement-wind-farms-health-2014/ [also at: www.wind-watch.org/documents/open-letter-to-ama-on-position-statement-wind-farms-health-2014/

I sincerely hope that not only do you answer ALL of the questions posed by the Waubra Foundation, but that you retract your position statement immediately.

People all over Australia and the world will simply not accept what you have endorsed and this will cast doubt on all future actions taken by the AMA.

Sincerely,

Lilli-Ann Green
