New Cartland windfarm application causes turbulence

A new windfarm application has been submitted near the village of Cartland – sparking a furious reaction from some locals.

The 66 metre turbine plan, which was submitted by Lanark-based Planterra Energy, is on land at Craigen Hill.

However, the application has not gone down well with some locals who famously fought a battle against two huge 125 metre turbines back in 2011.

One concerned Cartland resident, who asked not to be named, said: “People do not want to see a turbine erected on their doorstep. It is very close to both Cartland and Kilncadzow.”

But Planterra Energy director William Reilly countered these arguments, saying: “The turbine would be located in a relatively isolated location. There are no properties in close proximity. A 66 metre turbine is almost half the size of the previous application.”
