Flyers Creek opponents slam State Government changes to windfarm approval process

A State Government decision to alter the approval process for windfarms has angered opponents of the Flyers Creek development near Blayney.

The State Government announced opponents will be able to appeal against a Planning Assessment Commission’s decision to approve a windfarm development.

The announcement came a day after the commission approved the Flyers Creek windfarm development at Blayney.

Patina Schneider opposed the Flyers Creek proposal and questioned the timing of the government’s announcement.

“Look I think it is completely outrageous,” she said.

“The whole way along there’s been things done to ensure that we were left out in the cold.”

Pat Bradbery from the Central New South Wales Renewable Energy Co-op supported the Flyers Creek development but does not endorse the government’s annoucnement. BRADBERY CLIP:

“People have plenty of opportunities to express their opinions in the process that has been in place,” he said.

Mr Bradbery says the Government’s changes add another layer to the approval process.

“I think that it’s a matter of concern because what they’ve apparently done is introduce another step for windfarms to go through after they complete the PAC process as Flyers Creek has just done,” Mr Bradbery said.

There are nine windfarm proposals that will be subject to the Government’s decision to permit final appeals.

The ABC has contacted the Planning Minister Brad Hazzard for comment.
