(MAHANOY CITY, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY) – It may be a first for Northeastern Pennsylvania.
A wind turbine caught fire Saturday night.
Check out the flames shooting from the wind turbine in Mahanoy City.
Passerby John Grutza of Barnesville happened to be in the area this evening when he snapped the photo of the scene on Brandonville Road.
Officials says the fire started shortly after 6:30 Saturday evening.
Firefighters responded to the scene, but cleared the area after the wind turbine company, “Locust Ridge Wind Farm,” arrived.
The plan was to allow the turbine to burn itself out.
