Plans or a controversial wind farm for The Ridge, Old Leighlin have now been lodged with Carlow County Council.

Galetech Energy Development Ltd has applied for permission to erect 21 wind turbines, each with a hub height of up to 99m and rotor diameter of up to 82m, maximum tip height of 140m and all associated site development works at Knocknabranagh and Knockbaun, The Ridge, Baunreagh and Lacken, County Carlow.

The development know as Valleyview Wind Farm will also include a 110kv substation consisting of substation building with a floor area of 221.37m² and substation compound with all associated equipment and permanent compound area.

The application has a five-week submission period up to Monday 24 March for people to formally comment.

A public meeting on the issue has been planned for the parish centre in

Leighlinbridge next Wednesday, 12 March, aimed at helping to “fight against the industrialisation of our countryside”. The public meeting also aims to give advice on the correct form of making submissions to Carlow County Council to reject this proposal.
