MP Sir Peter Tapsell was invited to speak at a public meeting of those in opposition of plans to develop a wind farm on land at Asserby.

The meeting which took place on Saturday (March 1) at Huttoft Village Hall saw a turnout of almost 50.

This public meeting was organised to discuss the plans put forward by Energiekontor UK Ltd to develop a wind farm of up to four wind turbines on land at Asserby with a full planning application due to be submitted to East Lindsey District Council by the summer.

John Ayres-Smith, chair of Huttoft Community Group opened the meeting and introduced the two guest speakers, MP Sir Peter Tapsell and chair of the Marsh Windfarm Action Group, Melvin Grosvenor.

MP Sir Peter Tapsell was up to speak first and stated that he was ‘totally against’ windfarms for several reasons which included their inefficiency due to not producing enough energy if there was too much or too little wind, social damage as no-one wants to live near them resulting in falling house prices and diminshing tourism.

Sir Peter added his feelings were not a case of NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard), but that he had always made a clear opposition to windfarms inland.

He felt that ‘all windfarms should be stopped.’

Sir Peter finished by saying ‘we must get locals involved before Lincolnshire becomes known as the windy county.’

Then second guest speak, Melvin Grosvenor stepped up to speak and has past experience in fighting windfarm applications since 2007 and stated that in total there have been 159 windfarm applications put forward to ELDC alone.

He continued to explain that the bigger picture is ‘horrendous’.

As he drove down to the meeting, he also noticed that there were wind turbines to the north, south, east and west and invites communitities to ‘step forward and join forces.’

A full Q&A session was then undertaken with both guest speakers.

The meeting was also addressed by 13-year-old Kira Roberts who recently moved to the area and was part of an opposition windfarm group in her previous town and is keen to support this one.

She said: “This is my future. Say NO to Aasserby windfarm – YES to Lincolnshire.”
