Vote no to zoning by petition

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript | Tuesday, February 25, 2014 | (Published in print: Thursday, February 27, 2014) | www.ledgertranscript.com

Zoning by petition. Does anyone think this is a good idea?

Do you like the idea of people moving to New Hampshire, forming a corporation, and coming up with a plan to reshape our town for their own profit? Do you like that when they have failed to do that by establishing friendly relationships with members of town government, paying huge amounts of cash for lawyers, and producing plenty of one-sided information, they resort to rewriting our zoning?

At the Planning Board hearing, when it was asked, “Who is bringing this amendment forward,” nobody answered. None of the signers of the petition felt strongly enough to claim ownership, and as I said before, the amendment was written by an industrial concern whose representatives are not eligible to vote in Antrim. Only 25 signatures were needed to get amendment No. 5 on the ballot; out of a town of 2,449 people. That’s 1 percent. Vote NO on No. 5 in Antrim on March 11.
