Sticking to my guns

In my recent letter to the local newspaper, (War on Eagles, Jan. 30), triggered the most recent letter (Wind Energy, Feb. 19), in response and submitted by one respected member of the Wind fraternity, a person whose name you might recognize. It’s John Anderson, Director of Sitting Policy – American Wind Energy Association.
In my letter, I had the nerve to say, Windmills are a constant threat to whack-an-eagle.
On the flip side, Mr. Anderson, cited – Climate change as the greatest threat to all wildlife.
Having said that, within the last 15 years, I wonder how many “birds in a bush” – got “bush-whacked” by global warming every year, as opposed to Wind Turbines? Could it be there is no way to count them?
For example, some estimates peg the loss of birds to Wind Turbines at 400,000 to 600, 000 a year.
Recently, Duke Energy has been charged $ million in fines following federal prosecution in connection with the deaths of 14 Golden Eagles and 149 other protected birds at their Wyoming Wind-Power facilities.
It was the first U.S. Department of Justice prosecution of a company in connection with birds killed by Wind Turbines.
Common sense tells me if you slap up a Wind Turbine in the backyard of an Eagle “fly zone,” it’s a flapping death-trap for many birds in the wild.
Our national symbol should be treated like a “diamond in the rough”, instead of treating eagles casually, like they are a “dime-a-dozen.” – that’s all I’m saying.
