Groton resident settles with wind farm company

GROTON – The former Boston police officer who was seeking legal relief from Iberdrola Renewables after the company built its operations and maintenance building too close to his home for his comfort has settled with the company.

The details of the settlement were not disclosed by Rampino or his lawyer, Justin Richardson, and Iberdrola officials did not return calls Wednesday.

Rampino filed a motion with the state’s Site Evaluation Committee on Feb. 12 withdrawing any claims against Iberdrola. He also withdrew his status as an “intervenor” in the SEC’s current investigation into Iberdrola’s Groton Wind LLC.

“I hereby relinquish intervenor status granted to me … and respectfully request that the SEC take no further action regarding the issues and concerns raised by me or on my behalf regarding the Groton Wind Project as all such issues and concerns have been resolved to my satisfaction.”

Rampino, 71, a former U.S. Army infantryman who served in Vietnam for three years, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

He left Boston because he needed peace and quiet, and he found that at the top of Groton Hollow Road.

In 2010 and 2011, the Groton wind farm was built, and an operations building was built across from his home, without asking him.

Rampino said he was seeking a settlement.

Richardson would not comment on the settlement his client received.

“All Mario and I wish to say is that the matter has been resolved. It is not appropriate for Mario or me to discuss any details,” Richardson said. “All of Mr. Rampino’s concerns have been addressed appropriately.”
