Turbine plan near village withdrawn

Villagers have breathed a sigh of relief after a planning application for a 250ft wind turbine was withdrawn.

In August the News Post Leader reported how residents living in Nedderton Village near Bedlington were concerned about proposals for the turbine off Netherton Lane.

Protesters to the plans originally complained that they had not been given enough time to lodge their objections.

But the proposals for the wind turbine have now been withdrawn.

One objector, John Lawson, felt that if permission had been granted it would have set a precedent, making it easier for other picturesque villages in the area to be turned into wind farms.

“I was delighted to receive the news of the wind turbine application withdrawal, and I really feel that the decision was a strike for democracy,” he said.

“When one looks at the hard facts, when we first began our campaign the time element was crucial.

“Luckily, commonsense prevailed.”

The plans, submitted by Engena Limited, were for a single 77-metre wind turbine on land to the east of Burnt House Farm, off Netherton Lane, approximately 1.8km to the north west of Bedlington.

The application has been withdrawn because of an objection from the Ministry of Defence.
