The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is investigating how a massive wind turbine fell from a truck Tuesday.
Part of a wind turbine’s base fell from the transport truck on County Road 42.
The piece fell across the road at about noon, blocking traffic.
The road was closed between County Road 42 and Banwell Road for about three hours. It re-opened at about 3 p.m.
Ontario’s MTO said Equipment Express of Ayr, Ont., was the carrier.
The MTO has sent two officers to Windsor to conduct “a load security inspection.
The agency’s spokesperson Ajay Woozageer said a police escort was not needed for the load.
“This particular windmill part did not reach the threshold for weight or dimensions that would require police escort,” Woozageer said in an email to CBC News. “The permit required the operator to provide one private escort vehicle.”
Woozageer estimated the weight of the piece was between 47,000 kg and 49,110 kg, or 54 U.S. tons.
The MTO said it will provide the inspection results as soon as they are available.
