Wind farm scaled back from nine to five 415ft turbines

Proposals for a wind farm in West Dorset have been scaled down by developers.

West Coast Energy had wanted to construct nine 415ft (126.5m) wind turbines, each with an installed capacity of up to 2.5 megawatts (MW).

Now the firm has reduced the scheme, planned for land near Tolpuddle, to five wind turbines each with a tip-height of 377ft (115m) and a generating capacity of 2MW.

An exhibition of the revised plans for West Dorset Wind Farm will take place on Thursday February 13 at Tolpuddle Village Hall, from 3pm to 8pm.

The changes would give the wind farm an overall installed capacity of 10MW, projected to generate enough renewable electricity to meet the annual domestic needs of around 5,500 homes.

The nine-turbine proposal was submitted for planning permission then formally withdrawn last October.

Steve Salt, West Coast Energy planning and public affairs director, said the revised proposal “accommodates the concerns raised in relation to scale and design”.

“We have listened to the local community and now welcome the opportunity to speak with local residents, councillors, organisations and local businesses about our revised renewable energy plans.”
