Little Raith windfarm proposal is scaled back

The company behind plans for an extension to the Little Raith windfarm in south-west Fife has announced significant changes to the layout of the proposals.

Kennedy Renewables is proposing to reduce the number of proposed additional turbines from seven to six – the proposed turbine situated closest to Auchtertool would be removed – and reducing the planned height of the remaining six.

The decision to remove the turbine closest to Auchtertool is based on the results of the company’s environmental assessments, which showed that the turbine looked isolated in comparison to the existing windfarm.

The company says the visual footprint of the proposed extension will now mirror the existing Little Raith windfarm as seen from the A92.

Plans for the extension were announced last October, with the initial proposals citing seven turbines with a tip height of up to 135m.

Having carried out a further assessment of the layout and design, Kennedy Renewables has decided to reduce the height of the remaining six turbines to a blade-tip height of 126.5m, similar to those already on site.

Details of the proposed new layout will go on display at a series of public exhibitions across the area next week, starting in Auchtertool Village Hall on Tuesday between 2pm and 6.30pm, then in Cowdenbeath North Church on Wednesday between 2.30 and 8pm before finishing in Lochgelly Centre on Thursday between 2.30 and 7.30pm.
