New protest group set up to fight turbine plan for Fulbeck Airfield

Villagers have attended meetings arranged by campaigners who are fighting plans for 13 wind turbines, each more than 400 feet high, on land near Fulbeck.

Fifty-five people living near the site at Fulbeck Airfield attended an information meeting in Fulbeck on Wednesday night. Meetings have also been held in Beckingham and Barnby this week. The meetings were hosted by campaign group VETO which has been set up in response to the Fulbeck Airfield plan.

Wind farm developer Energiekontor has put in a planning application for “scoping opinion” before possibly going ahead with a full planning application for the turbines, each 415 feet high.

VETO spokesman John Cooke said he was “pleasantly surprised” by the turnout at the Fulbeck meeting. He said: “I think it is plain to see there is a significant number who are opposed to it.

“These are just initial briefings. As we move forward there will be more detailed briefings when the company starts to hold public meetings.”

The Fulbeck plan follows on the heels of a proposal for a wind farm at Temple Hill which another campaign group, reVOLT, is fighting.

Mr Cooke said: “VETO will work closely with the reVOLT group as sadly many people will be directly affected by both plans. However we do need a separate group for three reasons: we need to quickly make the community aware that this is another, different and way more significant development. It is also at a much earlier stage than Temple Hill and finally the Fulbeck Airfield project is so large, it straddles two district and county council areas.”

Mr Cooke said he and other parish council members had approached Energiekontor for a meeting but the company had not agreed to meet so far.

VETO will be conducting an audited house-to-house survey over the next few months in the villages affected so that it can put the reponses to the company in the future.

VETO has set up first contact details via info@vetocampaign.co.uk and www.vetocampaign.co.uk for anyone concerned and wishing to learn more at this stage. VETO is also looking for local residents who are prepared to assist in their campaign against the Fulbeck Airfield plan.
