Wind farm objectors in north Kerry to present house keys to Minister

A group in north Kerry opposed to a wind farm development are to present the keys of 125 front doors in the locality to the Environment Minister.

A planning application has been submitted to Kerry County Council for the 10 turbine wind farm at Ballyhorgan by Stacks Mountain Wind Farm Limited.

The company says the site is within an area identified in the Kerry County Development Plan as having the capacity to support wind development.

Over 120 people attended a public meeting at Dromclogh school last night organised by the North Kerry Windfarms Awareness Group to discuss the project.

Both the height of the turbines and the possibility of hundreds more turbines being built are among the principal concerns.

The group has engaged both legal and environmental consultants ahead of lodging an objection to the planning application.

They are planning to meet with the Environment Minister Phil Hogan and present him with the front door keys of 125 houses.

“For Sale” signs have appeared on houses in the area in recent weeks pending the outcome of the planning process.

They will also join with 200 other groups from around the country concerned about wind farms and pylons in Portlaoise on Monday.
