Revised wind farm plans get short shrift

Villagers and a parish council have attacked revised plans for a wind farm near to 
Watford Gap service station.

Documents for the Watford Gap Renewable Energy Park include scaled down plans from seven turbines to five. These have been submitted to Daventry District Council (DDC) by the Spanish energy firm, Gamesa.

However the changes do not go far enough for the majority of villagers.

Dr Ross Spall, the chairman of Watford Parish Council, said: “I just do not know how much more this village can take. If this one gets granted approval I don’t know what people will do.

“There are too many wind turbines in this area. We have objected but don’t think it will make much difference.”

Long Buckby Parish Council held a meeting on Monday to discuss the plans and have objected to them.

Alan Webb, the vice chairman of Long Buckby Parish Council, said: “There is a lot of talk that there is a need for some renewable energy and there are some of the councillors who feel these type of things are needed.

“However there are simply too many in and around this immediate area. I feel very sorry for the people of Watford as they are surrounded by these turbines in the village.

“There are also the turbines at Yelvertoft and Lilbourne which can be seen from Watford.”

A decision on the plans is set to be made by the planning committee of Daventry District Council later this year. No date has been announced as to when it will be determined.
