Hundreds of huge wind turbine blades could end up having to be buried at the end of their working life.
A report for Aberdeenshire councillors has warned that recycling materials used could prove difficult.
The North-east is home to an estimated 1,000 turbines, which are said to have a life-span of up to 25 years.
The report said: “Like any other redundant machinery, wind turbines would ideally be disposed of in a sustainable manner.
“However, rotor blades are more difficult to recycle due to their complex composition and materials.”
