Wind turbine approved for Doddington farm despite opposition from airfield and residents

A wind turbine will be installed on farmland despite complaints from a nearby airfield following a successful appeal.
The 24.6m turbine will be installed on Coneywood South Farm, Wood Street, Doddington, less than 3km from Chatteris Airfield.
The original application was rejected by Fenland District Council in October 2012 on the grounds it would have “an adverse impact on the area”.
But planning inspector Paul Griffiths said the proposal “would bring significant benefits in terms of production of renewable energy and in relation to the ongoing vitality of the farming enterprise”.
Planners received seven letters of objection from residents who said there were already too many wind turbines in the area, it would be detrimental to wildlife, pose a risk to children playing in the field and cause property values to fall.
Chatteris Airfield said the wind turbine would make it difficult for them to fly their microlights.
But Mr Griffiths, in his report, said: “A wind turbine of the height proposed, set adjacent to a group of farm buildings and located over 2km from the airfield, should pose no threat to the save operation of parachuting or flying.
“While it would be visible from nearby dwellings, it would not be a dominant or oppressive feature.
“The proposal will have no significant impact on the living conditions of nearby residents.”
