Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis on Wednesday issued a ministerial decree defining the environmental terms and conditions for the construction and operation of seven large wind farms with an installed total capacity of 465 megawatts in Mt.Vermio, between the regions of Imathia and Kozani, Northern Greece.

According to AMNA, the wind farms will contribute 558 million euros to the country΄s real economy and produce 1,075 gigawatts of ΄green΄ electricity on an annual basis, corresponding to 2 pct of national demand.

Another 16 wind farms with a total capacity of 422.7 megawatts will be constructed on the mainland and the islands, contributing 507 million euros to the real economy.

The development of wind farms in Naxos, Paros, Tinos and Andros and their connection with the mainland grid will solve the islands΄ energy problems, especially during the summer months.

They will also generate revenue for local government and local economies, as well as contributing to environmental protection by replacing power production units using fossil fuels.
