Public submissions on Crudine Ridge windfarm released

ABC News | Posted Mon 6 Jan 2014 | www.abc.net.au

There has been strong community opposition to proposed transport routes for a planned wind farm near Mudgee, but some people are still staunchly supporting the Crudine Ridge project.

Last month Wind Prospect CWP, released two new options for transporting 106 turbines so that vehicles would pass through Mudgee and Gulgong.

Nearly 40 responses to those plans have now been posted on the Department of Planning and Infrastructure’s website.

The Mid-Western Regional Council continues to oppose the wind farm and has attached 212 form letters from objecting individuals.

The council argues the company simply wants the cheapest option.

However a handful of residents have made submissions in support saying the project would take the focus off coal power and involve short term pain for long term gain.

In its submission, the Mid-Western Regional Council has described as ‘fanciful’ an estimate of how quickly the big wind farm trucks could travel through Mudgee.

The council’s submission has rejected the company’s claim that a 65 metre long vehicle would only take one minute to pass through an intersection.

The Crudine Ridge Environment Protection Group’s objection says some vehicles would come as close as 10 metres of classrooms at Mudgee High School.

The company is now reviewing the submissions.
