Planners cut number of turbines for Triton Knoll wind farm

Planners behind the Triton Knoll wind farm have cut the number of offshore turbines it will include.
RWE Npower Renewables have reviewed their plans for the offshore wind farm and onshore energy development, which will be built near parts of the Lincolnshire coastline.
The £3.6 billion project was given the initial go-ahead in July, but the plans have since been revised.
It will now run at between 600 and 900 megawatts, rather than the previous 1200 megawatt maximum.
The number of turbines has also been cut, with more space between each one.
More detailed designs have also been drawn up for the onshore part of the development, as part of a review.
The changes are in a bid to make the wind farm more efficient and ensure it fits with new Government guidelines.
Project Manager Jacob Hain said: “The recent optimisation work is part of a project review to make the site more competitive and more economic in line with Government proposals to bring down the cost of offshore wind.”
The new capacity for the Triton Knoll wind farm development would still see it able to produce enough energy for up to 800,000 homes.
