Wind-industry lobby has too much power in Maine

Portland Press Herald | January 2, 2014 | www.pressherald.com

Vital revisions are needed to Maine’s existing wind law. Fortunately, our state funded an independent review that lists 25 recommendations for how wind power could play a more positive role in our state’s economic development.

Unfortunately, industry lobbyists don’t like these ideas.

I encourage Maine voters to re-evaluate industrial wind power development and to contact their elected officials with their opinions.

The Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology (our elected officials) needs to stand strong in the face of some powerful industry-lobby “windstorms.”

When an otherwise clean energy source becomes associated with massive mountaintop development, something is seriously wrong.
