Bearing failure halts school wind turbine

The blades on the Nantucket High School wind turbine remain still as the 100-kilowatt Northern Power Systems structure awaits replacement bearings, which may take several more weeks.
The latest stoppage comes a month after the turbine was shut down to receive new brake pads and Nantucket Public Schools facility director Diane O’Neil made the decision to avoid concerns about the noise it was making.
