KidWind draws students into renewable energy careers with nationwide Challenge Events and teacher workshops

Workshops help teachers lead students in regional challenges that will culminate in a national wind turbine competition in Washington, D.C. in Spring 2014

(Saint Paul, MN) December 17, 2013 – As part of its goal to host 35 KidWind Challenge Events during the 2014 school year, KidWind, the international leader of clean energy education, has scheduled 22 Challenge events across the United States, Canada and the Virgin Islands. During the Challenges, students in grades 4-12 will come together to test efficiency and design of their hand-made wind turbines in the high-speed KidWind Wind Tunnel and be judged by wind industry experts.

Participating in a KidWind Challenge Event is one of the two ways student teams and coaches can qualify for the National KidWind Challenge being held on April 26, 2014 in Washington D.C. Teams have until March 30, 2014 to compete and qualify for the National Challenge. The following is a list of scheduled KidWind Challenge Events and their locations:

3/1/2014: Greenfield Community College; Greenfield, MA
3/1/2014: Mount Nittany Middle School; State College, PA
3/4/2014: Drake University; Des Moines, IA
3/5/2014: Edmonton City Hall; Edmonton, Alberta (Canada)
3/8/2014: Western Iowa Tech College; Sioux City, IA

KidWind is also hosting training workshops to introduce teachers to the science behind renewable energy, and to give them the knowledge and resources to effectively incorporate renewable energy science into their classroom. Below are the scheduled trainings and their locations:
