The Cherokee County Commission met on Monday, Dec. 9, with all Commissioners present.

During the planning session Patrick Buckley of Pioneer Energy met with the Commissioners to give an update on the Windmill Project on Shinbone Ridge. Buckley gave an update on the project and told of working with the Senator to come to an agreement on this project.

Also Dave Crum of the Park Board met with the Commissioners about a funding request.

During the regularly scheduled meeting the Commission approved the Agenda for December 9, and previous meeting minutes and approved payables.

In the order of new business the Commission:

· Approved the 2014 Holiday Schedule

· Approved to advertise job posting in accordance with personnel policy for Courthouse housekeeper due to the retirement of Belinda Gladden

· Approved to appoint/reappointment to the Cherokee County Department of Human Resources Board to fill three expired terms. At this time one vacancy is still available and the other two spots will be filled by Brad Jacoway and Teresa Frye. These terms are for six years.

· Approve excess land redemption to Joseph Loggins in the amount of $703.11

· Approved liability insurance coverage with the Association of County Commissions of Alabama Liability Self-Insurance Fund for the coverage period January 1, 2014-January 1, 2015 in the amount of $114,280.00

In new business the Commission approved an Appropriation to the Cherokee County Parks and Recreations Board for a Comfort Station Cherokee Village at Chin Bone Ridge in the amount of but not to exceed $67,000.00.

Dave Crum met with the Commission to explain that this facility will give visitors restrooms and places to shower while staying at this location along with a 28×24 safe room with the capacity of holding 90 people.

The number of visitors have been growing and are expected to keep growing in the future especially with these new facilities.

This place offers camping spaces so a dump sight will also be included.

At present time visitors are charged a fee but don’t have these comforts so with the addition of these revenue will go up with people being more satisfied with the quality of their visit and making it a place they want to visit more frequently.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 10 a.m.
