Use common sense and protect eagles

December 15, 2013 | trib.com

Common sense no longer prevails. It is unbelievable to allow the wind energy industry to violate the Migratory Bird Treaty and the Bald and Golden Eagle Act. In the Star Tribune Dec. 7 under the heading “Feds extend wind farm permits to kill eagles” you will read the double talk allowing this to happen.

Wind cannot meet the nation’s demand for electricity using wind power. The numbers are available to prove this fact. Nor does it make a lot of difference in reducing global warming. Allowing the wind energy people to break the law may make them less sensitive for the possible development of a barrier to prevent the birds from entering the tower complex.

This issue is almost like requiring ships to go back to the wind and sails because they burn fossil fuels. The fact remains, the people of this country are making a terrible sacrifice in the name of green energy when in fact red energy is a better term for the number of birds that are being killed.

What an ecological disaster it will be if the 1,000 tower Chockcherry-Sierra Madra wind farms are constructed. Let us hope they will never be built. If built, is there money in the reserve to dismantle the towers when they are no longer useful?

This country has been considered a leader in conservation movements. This authorization allowing the killing of eagles and song birds with our government’s permission is a disgrace to our nation.
