Wind farm plan turbine numbers cut

A company proposing a $700 million wind farm north-west of Mannum has cut the number of turbines in the plan, after community feedback and environmental assessments.

TrustPower Australia wants to build a wind farm on the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges, near Palmer and Tungkillo.

It has changed the plan by reducing the number of turbines from 130 to about 120 and shifting some of their locations.

The company’s Rodney Ahern says a development application should be ready for the Mid Murray Council by the end of February.

“We were hoping to have the application in by the end of this year but that now’s going to be shifted back to February, so everything slips a little bit with that but it’s still better we think to … get all the work done, address all the issues and design it as appropriately as we can to minimise all the impacts,” he said.

“It’s partly the feedback and it’s also partly the result of us learning from the environmental work that we’ve been doing.

“We’ve also been refining things like where the infrastructure goes, our on-site ‘roading’, where our access points to the wind farm will be from the roading network, and also talking to landowners, getting easements and stuff for the powerlines.”
