WELLFLEET – The zoning board of appeals, at its meeting Thursday, Nov. 21, voted to grant the request filed last month by Mass. Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to withdraw, without prejudice, its application for a special permit to install a wind turbine at the sanctuary.

Vern Jacob, board chair, announced the request as an “administrative matter” to be acted upon by the board. Three citizens turned out for the hearing but left as soon as the board, on a motion by Roger Putnam, board member, approved the request to withdraw without prejudice.

The board also took under consideration a request made by Michael Ford, the attorney representing Audubon, that it consider granting Audubon a rebate of part of the fee it paid to apply to the ZBA

Jacob suggested the board might want to consider offering Audubon a reduced rate if they file another application.

But the board agreed with Putnam that it would not be proper to offer a rebate or reduced rate for a reapplication.

Jacob said Ford would be notified of this decision.

Audubon paid the town of Wellfleet $350 to file its application.
