MP opposes wind farm

Sleaford and North Hykeham MP Stephen Phillips pressed ministers in the Commons on Monday on the proliferation of onshore wind farms citing the five turbines planned for Temple Hill, near Hough on the Hill.

Kris Hopkins, junior minister for Communities and Local Government, advised that new regulations were being introduced to ensure developers consult with local communities.

Mr Phillips said: “I do not support the construction of wind turbines where they do not have the support of local residents.

“The sheer weight of opinion against the proposals at Temple Hill has meant that I have formally objected.”

Last Tuesday, North Kesteven District Council’s planning sub-committee expressed its objections to the scheme by RWE Npower Renewables, on account of the amount of construction traffic that would affect the villagers of Stragglethorpe for 11 months, with 44 vehicle movements per day, and the affect the five 126.5m high turbines would have on views of St Helen’s Church at Brant Broughton.

Coun Geoff Whittle commented: “This would be a lasting sore on the countryside.”

Coun Richard Wright urged members to judge it against the alternative of a large power station, but the concerns will be passed on to South Kesteven District Council for it to decide upon the application.
