M62 wind turbines get go ahead

Huddersfield is to have three new wind turbines.

Two of them will be passed by thousands of motorists as they will be built on land just off the M62 at Outlane.

The other will be on land close to Hey Lane, Lepton.

Plans for the two separate applications were considered and last night both approved by Kirklees Council.

The Huddersfield Sub-Committee first considered the Outlane site. Members heard the two turbines will each have an overall height of 35.4 metres.

Applicant Matthew Tidmarsh proposed the plans for the greenfield site and said the scheme which has a capacity to produce 500,000kw an hour.

The nearest unconnected property was said to be 200m away at Daisy Lee Farm, where there is a similar turbine.

But local residents raised concerns about noise nuisance and adverse affect on the visual landscape. Some 33 letters of objection were submitted.

But after hearing representations councillors approved officers’ recommendation for approval with eight to six in favour.

And Lepton applicant Harry Brown’s proposal for a single turbine with a 24.8m mast was also approved.

Residents were largely opposed to the site, arguing it was unsuitable due to the overbearing nature of the turbines.

A total of 330 responses were received with just 13 in favour. But councillors agreed with officers’ recommendations and approved the plan.
