NSW Planning Department approves Flyer’s Creek windfarm

ABC News | 28 Nov 2013 | www.abc.net.au

The state’s Planning Department has recommended the Flyer’s Creek windfarm be approved near Carcoar.

The application for the almost $2m project by Infigen Energy, was lodged with the Planning Department in 2008.

Infigen says the windfarm will employ 100 people during construction and create five fulltime jobs.

In its assessment, the Department says more than 80 submissions lodged objected to the windfarm.

It says concerns were raised about noise, impacts on traffic, biodiversity, and nearby residents health.

But the Department says it is satisfied the project can achieve acceptable amenity, health and environmental standards and proceed in a sustainable manner with benefits to New South Wales.

The Department has placed more than 100 conditions on the windfarm, including that some turbines be removed, due to their affect on the visual landscape, and that a community consultative committee be established for the life of the windfarm.

The Planning Assessment Commission will now make a final determination on the project.
