Delaware County still cool to wind farm?

What happened? In May, E.ON Climate & Renewables canceled an appearance before Delaware County Council after receiving signals that the council would reject the company’s request for property tax abatement for a wind farm. At the same time, the city-county plan commission postponed for 2-3 years action on an ordinance to regulate wind farms, so the county could research the impact of other Indiana wind farms on property values.
What happened next? Under the headline “Delaware County warms up to the idea” of a wind farm, The News-Gazette in Winchester reported on Nov. 5 that an E.ON attorney told Randolph County Commissioners that Delaware County officials now want to discuss their options for a wind farm. E.ON wants to build a wind farm in Delaware and Randolph counties.
What’s up now? “I have no idea where that came from,” Marta Moody, director of the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission, said last week of the E.ON attorney’s remarks. Referring to any Delaware County officials E.ON reportedly has talked to, Moody said, “We have no idea who that is.” She said the only new development regarding wind farms in Delaware County is that Tom Green, plan commission chairman, plans to reactivate the commission’s wind farm committee after the first of the year to continue studying wind farms. Green wants to expand the committee, whose current members are Moody, Green, County Commissioner Larry Bledsoe and Michael O’Donnell, a Purdue extension agent. Moody said the E.ON attorney’s comments angered Bledsoe.
