Wind turbine plan blown out

Planners have unanimously agreed to turn down an apllication for a wind turbine that would have towered more than 46m over a village near Ashbourne.

People living near to where the proposed turbine would be sited, on land south of Brookley Meadows Farm in Long Lane, had objected to its construction, explaining it would have an adverse impact on the surrounding landscape and their quality of life.

The applicant, Mr Dutton, spoke at the meeting to explain the benefits it would bring to his farming business, which is regularly used as a training facility for student farmers including pupis from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School. But members of the Derbyshire Dales District Council Southern Area Planning Committee, who met on Tuesday last week, said they feared it could have a ‘detrimental effect’ on the locality.

The committee agreed with the recommendation of planning officer William Shaw that it be refused.
