Wind farm protestors concern over time

Sleaford Standard | 10 November 2013 | www.sleafordstandard.co.uk

Campaigners are concerned they have just three weeks to respond to a planning application for a five turbine wind farm project.

German energy company RWE Npower Renewables has submitted their planning application to South Kesteven District Council for a wind farm at Temple Hill, near Brandon and Caythorpe.

But despite their three years of preparatory work and a commitment to inform the local community, the application is virtually impossible to access for any affected residents it has been
claimed.

Paul Miley, spokesman for reVOLT, the local action group formed to try to keep worried residents informed, said: “I have tried to access the RWE materials on the SKDC website, but as it runs to 135 documents, the largest of which is 58.7MB, with the speed, or lack of speed, on rural internet connections, it is simply impossible.”

Hugh Wilson, chairman of Stubton Parish Council, commented: “We are grateful to SKDC for providing our parish council with a hard copy of all the documents; these alone run to several boxes.”

He added: “The three week deadline is the standard request from SKDC, but they have suggested that we may have some more time.

“We will do our best to represent parishioners’ views with the limited time and resources available.”

reVOLT has devoted its efforts to try to make the information accessible to all.

Vikki Hoole, reVOLT secretary, said: “It has been a monumental task, but we have produced an index to all of the documents. In this way residents can find and open the section that concerns them most.

“We feel RWE have set out to swamp local people with the sheer volume of the documents, burying some very important points relevant to the site, amongst long sections of very generic material.

“One thing that is clear is the scale and devastating impact of the wind farm, as depicted in RWE’s own montages.”

reVOLT is running a series of workshops on November 9 and 16.
