Feedback wanted on ‘mystery’ wind farm

Yorkshire Post | 08 November 2013 | www.yorkshirepost.co.uk

A wind farm developer is asking the public to comment on its plans for a former airfield – without giving details of what the project might entail.

RWE npower renewables will host its first public event for its proposed Cottam Airfield Wind Farm near Driffield later this month, and has also set up a comments page on its website.

But the company has declined to say how many turbines it hopes to build, or what size they will be.

It said studies at the site were at a “very early stage”, but the company is “keen to begin consulting with the local community as soon as possible in order to keep them informed, gather feedback on plans to date and help inform future plans on the proposed development”.

Residents are nonetheless invited to meet the project team, find out more about the company, and “provide feedback on initial plans” at the drop-in event being held at Cass Hall, King Street, Driffield, on Saturday, November 30, from 10.30am to 4pm.

Dee Nunn, RWE npower renewables’ developer for the proposed wind farm, said: “As a responsible developer, we are keen to build a positive relationship with the local community and to consult them throughout the development of our plans.

“We have already sought assistance from the parish councils and East Riding of Yorkshire Council on the best way to achieve this, and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage as many people as possible to attend the drop-in day or to provide feedback through the consultation section of our website.

“As well as information about the proposal, there will also be the opportunity to hear about the potential economic and community benefits associated with a wind farm such as Cottam Airfield.”

She added: “We anticipate that we will hold a second public exhibition next year, where a scheme design will be on display together with an update on our studies at the site.”
