Wind farm developer requests delay to discuss options with Delaware County

The Randolph County Board of Commissioners Monday approved a revision, delaying its contract with E.ON Climate and Renewables to establish the newly named Cardinal Wind Farm project. The delay, said E.ON attorney Mary Solada, is due to the fact that Delaware County officials now want to discuss its options for a wind farm.

Delaware County officials previously questioned the viability of a wind farm in their jurisdiction.

“They (Delaware County officials) urged us to bring a project to Delaware County, but when we did, they got kind of cold feet about it,” Solada said.

The current Randolph County contract with E.ON calls for the construction to begin this year on a 100 megawatt wind farm in Randolph County. The project was due to be completed by the end of 2016.

Solada suggested a 3-year extension, which would help them to acquire additional land in Randolph County. She said the company could live with a 2-year extension, although a 1-year extension would be difficult. The commissioners approved the suggested 3-year extension.

“If we shift the entire project into Randolph County, and there’s a real possibility of that,” she said, “you could double the potential revenue.”
