Falmouth needs governor’s support against turbines

Cape Cod Times | November 05, 2013 | www.capecodonline.com

After reading Gov. Patrick’s “Clean energy industry booming in Massachusetts,” I have a couple of comments.

I followed his example and bought shares in Evergreen Solar, which he promoted enthusiastically a few years ago. When the stock plunged, I sold all in my regular Fidelity account for a loss, but my IRA still holds 167 shares for which I paid $11,000 whose value is now “unavailable.” That was a painful experience, but I am glad that solar is proving to be a valuable source of clean energy.

My second comment: In the governor’s article on clean energy, only twice did I see the word “wind.” It is time for Mr. Patrick to recognize that Falmouth needs his support to remove Wind 1 and Wind 2, our 1.65-megawatt wind turbines, which have affected the health of our West Falmouth neighbors for three years.

And please recognize that many other communities in Massachusetts are also suffering from turbines that are too big and too close to residences.
