An energy developer has submitted plans to extend the Hill of Towie Wind Farm, near Drummuir.

The application by RES would see another 16 turbines built, to join the 21 turbines that already exist at Hill of Towie.

The submission of the Section 36 application, to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents and Deployment Unit, followed a consultation period which included public exhibitions in Dufftown, Drummuir and Keith.

RES project manager, Ruth Highgate, said: “We would like to thank all of those who came along to the public exhibitions and took the time to provide us with comments on our proposal for the extension.”

RES anticipates that Hill of Towie II Wind Farm could put more than £4.4 million into the local economy during construction and the first year of operation.

There will also be a community benefits package of £144,000 per year, teh company said.

This will be split between a Community Benefit Fund for investment in local projects, and RES’ innovative Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS), which provides an annual discount on electricity bills to nearest neighbours.
