Twee monteurs komen om bij brand in windmolen

Bij een brand in een windmolen in het Zuid-Hollandse Ooltgensplaat zijn dinsdag twee mannen om het leven gekomen. Het gaat om monteurs die met twee collega’s bezig waren met werkzaamheden aan de tachtig meter hoge windmolen. De collega’s konden zichzelf wel tijdig in veiligheid brengen.

De slachtoffers waren bovenin de windmolen aan het werk. Een van hen viel tijdens de brand naar beneden. Zijn lichaam werd naast de windmolen gevonden. Het andere slachtoffer werd niet direct gevonden. Zijn lichaam bleek bovenin de toren te liggen.

De brand brak dinsdagmiddag door nog onbekend oorzaak bovenin een van de windmolens aan de Mariadijk toen de monteurs met de windmolen bezig waren. Blussen was vanwege de hoogte van de toren niet mogelijk. In de loop van de avond werd de toren met een kraan geïnspecteerd. Daarbij werd het tweede stoffelijk overschot gevonden.

De Inspectie SZW, de voormalige Arbeidsinspectie, onderzoekt de oorzaak van de brand.
