Turbines could stay longer than five years

The chairman of a protest group has asked that any attempted planning extension to a controversial turbine development needs to be held public.

Three giant 200m turbines are to be assembled at the Hunterston site, with one for Siemens already nearing completion.

It was stated at their most recent meeting that SSE Renewables would likely be looking for a longer period than the current agreement of five years, as the lease of the land is ‘considerably longer’.

Mr David Telford, asked if any future wind turbine extension would be taken by planners behind closed doors, in reference to the application for social housing wat the former Kelburn Hotel site which was decided by NAC planners under delegated powers.

Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson said that he would have thought that if there was ever a major extension that it would have to go before planning.

Conservative councillor Tom Marshall pointed out that there were efforts to extend the number of turbines at the Kelburn Wind Farm but this was knocked back as it was too high a concentration.

Mr Gibson stated that it would have meant too many turbines in the footprint area in relation to Kelburn.

We recently reported that Mr Telford had set up his own group NAV-OV – North Ayrshire Vandalised Our Village – which is trying to obtain funds to launch a legal bid to bring the SSE Renewable turbine test development to a halt.
