FALMOUTH – Opponents of the two town-owned wind turbines were hoping that Monday night’s Falmouth Board of Health meeting would result in them getting a good night’s sleep, but it looks like that possibility will be delayed.

Monday night’s agenda was to have a “sleep discussion” in order to determine if the current 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. turbine shut off times were allowing nearby residents appropriate amount of sleep. However, because of the absence of board member Stephen Rafferty, the board decided to delay the discussion until its next meeting on Nov. 4.

“I think its too important, not to have all members of the board present,” said board member Gail Harkness.

After many testimonials from both sides of the wind turbine issue were heard at the last meeting on Oct. 2 it was determined by the board that a discussion concerning the appropriate amount of sleep in order for an individual to remain healthy was needed. If the board determines that the shut off times are not conducive for sleep the board will ask the selectmen to reconsider the shut off times.

Selectmen extended the hours of operation for the turbines at the wastewater treatment plant in an effort to make them economically viable.
