County Commission passes resolution regarding Shinbone Ridge Wind Energy Project

The Cherokee County Commission met on Monday, Oct. 14, with all commission members present.

All groups receiving funds though the county commission will have to do a bit more paperwork following the Monday morning meeting of the commission. This comes so that better track can be kept of the taxpayer dollars.

In other business, the Alabama Department of Youth Services were approved for a grant for the fiscal year 2013/2014 to utilize the Cherokee County Savings Teens at Risk Adolescent Day Program, otherwise known as the STAR program.

A job posting for Deputy Administrator with the starting salary set at $35,000 annually was approved by the council.

A resolution was adopted that TVA require Pioneer Green Energy to submit an Environmental Impact Statement concerning the proposal of the project known as the “Shinbone Ridge Wind Energy Project”. This project would place as many as eight wind turbines in the county.

The commission also granted approval for County Engineer Corey Chambers to let a bid for two PTO Tractors with a minimum of 80 horsepower.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is set for Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.
