The government of Quebec October 21 authorized the construction of the 24.6 MW La Mitis Community Wind Project, which will consist of 12 wind turbines supplied by REpower Systems SE.
With the authorization process completed, construction can commence as soon as spring 2014 with commercial operation expected the following fall.
The wind energy project is located in the unorganized territory Lac-à-la-Croix in the MRC de La Mitis, administrative region of the Bas-St-Laurent.
Energie Renouvelable de la Mitis and EDF EN Canada Inc., a unit of EDF Energies Nouvelles are co-owners and developers of the project.
Hydro-Québec Distribution awarded EDF EN Canada two wind projects in December 2010 as a result of the 2009 Hydro-Québec call for tenders, which was focused on community projects.
