Turbine plan attracts hundreds of complaints

Plans to build a wind turbine have provoked an angry backlash from villagers and farmers, with North Somerset Council receiving about 275 letters of objection.

Hundreds of people have written to the local authority to protest against a planning application for a wind 
turbine in Butcombe.

The ‘small’ 43-metre structure was first revealed by the Mercury at the start of September and has seen 
objections raised from villagers, those living close by in Rickford and Blagdon plus some further afield.

The land, to the south of 
Windover, off Yewtree Batch, is protected as greenbelt but, according to agents Aspire Planning, that should not lead to an automatic rejection.

Complaints range from its proximity to an area of outstanding natural beauty to the impact on the landscape and possible noise pollution.

Wrington and Butcombe parish councils have called for the 
application to be rejected by North Somerset Council, with the latter 
fearing a wind turbine would affect wildlife in the area.

There have been 15 letters in support of the application and Aspire claims the wind turbine would be 300m away from any homes.
