Council refuse millionaire’s second wind turbine plan

Sunday Times Rich list multi-millionaire Lawrence Tomlinson had a second application for a wind turbine refused by Harrogate Borough Council.

The multi-millionaire boss of Leeds based LNT group applied for permission to relocate the 18metre high wind turbine he was ordered to take down in January 2013 following noise complaints.

The proposed new location is just 250 metres from neighbouring property, Hambleton House Farm.

Neighbour Grenville Pullan told the planning committee: “We have already suffered for four years when it was previously installed close to our homes, the noise could be heard right across the valley.

“Installing a turbine for green credentials does not wash when the applicant arrives by helicopter.”

Mr Tomlinson did not attend the planning meeting and was represented by Alister Wood who said: “I do believe the noise has been vastly exaggerated.”

Mr Wood pointed out that the turbine was the same 20Kw wind turbine Mr Tomlinson was granted permission for in 2008, but acknowledged some amendments had been made.

Coun Christine Ryder asked: “Could any of the cladding on it fall off, as the new site is near a public footpath?”

Mr Wood said: “We wouldn’t expect it to fall off, it is foam so no damage would be done, but it will be repaired in a durable manner.”

Coun Pat Marsh said: “I have heard nothing disagreesing with our environmental officers findings that the turbine noise was a persistant drone, it can’t be right for anyone to have to listen to that.”
