PQ government’s economic plan is full of wind

The Montreal Gazette | October 9, 2013 | www.montrealgazette.com

Re: “Marois offers $2B jobs plan” (Gazette, Oct. 8).

Do Premier Pauline Marois and Finance Minister Nicolas Marceau believe that the majority of Québécois are outright stupid?

She claims to be able to help fund a job-creation program from selling cheap (surplus) electricity to unknown new corporations.

First, there are very few if any new corporations beating a path to Quebec’s door to start up a business. We all know the whys of that.

Second, Hydro-Québec is asking for a 3.4 per cent increase in our hydro rates to pay for the expensive wind energy that our provincial government forces them to purchase. What is going on? Do we have a surplus of electricity or not? If we do, why are we promoting wind power, which is an extremely inefficient method of generating electricity – not to mention the impact of the huge carbon footprint to produce, transport and erect one wind turbine tower.

Please, let’s announce the election and get rid of this inept PQ government forever.
